Three years into the “decade of action,” the urgent work of decarbonization is gaining clear momentum.

In Los Angeles, the people elected a mayor who continues to push for urgent climate action to achieve 100% clean energy by 2035; the city council unanimously passed an ordinance mandating a shift away from fossil fuels in new buildings; and LABBC partners continued to inspire the commercial real estate industry with innovative decarbonization strategies. California, meanwhile, is pushing forward an unprecedented statewide plan to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2045.

At the Federal level, the newly enacted Inflation Reduction Act promises an unprecedented investment in clean energy and climate justice, and Los Angeles is proactively tracking the flow of funding to ensure Angelenos are positioned to benefit from this historic investment.

While so much important work is underway, still more remains. It's time to push the limits of what’s possible to make our buildings—and our communities—more resilient, more equitable and more prosperous as we decarbonize the economy.
